Meet the Performers
2010 Electric Youth, Galen ~ Age 17
I became involved in the Performing Arts when I was six years old and took my first dance class in ballet. I have been a student at FSPA for about ten years now and I currently take six disciplines of dance. My favorite thing about FSPA is the positive atmosphere and the wonderful people that I get to work with every day. I always feel at home at FSPA and I often just come to find a friend when I am feeling down. It’s a home away from home and I know it will always be here.
I knew that I wanted to be a member of Electric Youth when I saw them perform and saw how much fun they were having. The music immediately drew me in and I knew that that was the kind of performing I wanted to do. Being involved in Electric youth always keeps me on my toes. There is always something to look forward to and work for, not to mention the great group of people I get to work with every day. Going on tour is amazing. I loved seeing new places everyday and trying new things, but the best part was performing for ecstatic crowds and making people happy! Seeing audiences smile and laugh and try to sing along is definitely the most rewarding part of being on tour with Electric Youth. I love to make people happy, and it’s nice to know that by doing what we love, we can also brighten someone’s day. Music is power! The most challenging part of being on tour was moving around a lot from place to place. It was exciting, but actually very tiring! My favorite venue to perform at was Villamanin in Italy because it was a beautiful building which had been turned into a modern art museum, and it had a huge skull sculpture made out of pots, pans, and aluminum cans to the right of the stage! We had to dodge the skull when we danced because it could not be moved! It was actually quite funny. Visiting Bellagio in Lake Como was another favorite part of Italy. I definitely felt like I was experiencing the authenticity of Italy in Bellagio, it was so beautiful.
One day on tour, we set off to drive to the top of the highest mountain in Austria, and the views were just to die for! It was beautiful and it was definitely one of the things that made me love Austria! I will never forget that day because it was the day I decided that Austria was the most beautiful place I have ever visited and I know I want to live there at some point in my life! (I also miss my favorite restaurant in Austria, “The Bagel Station”. I crave their chicken bagel at least once a week).
Because of Electric youth, I have completely changed as a performer. I am able to pick up choreography ten times faster, my confidence on stage has greatly improved, and I can now move with unbelievable energy that I never knew I had. Electric Youth has definitely changed my life. The skills I have learned will stay with me and benefit everything I do throughout my life (people skills, public speaking skills), I can say I have been to Europe with an amazing group of people and many talented musicians (which I will be telling my grandchildren about in many years), I have gained self confidence that definitely shows (self confidence is very important!), and I have made friends that share my interests and support me in everything I do! I have taken so much from this experience and consider myself VERY lucky! This is something I will not take for granted and I am thankful for every day!
In the future, I plan to go to attend medical school and hopefully become a doctor. Of course, music will always be a part of my life and I hope I can minor in it.
